Ministry of Justice of the United States Proposes Court Order to Split Chrome into Separate Company in Antitrust Case Involving Search Bias

The Ministry of Justice of the United States has officially submitted a case to the court requesting the separation of Chrome from Google to form a new company. This comes after the court ruled that Google engages in anticompetitive behavior in Search.

Citing the explanation provided by Judge Amit Mehta, the Ministry of Justice pointed out that the Chrome browser contributes to the anticompetitive behavior in Search. In addition to the proposal to spin off the company, the Ministry also suggests that Google should open access to its data, algorithms, search result displays, allowing competitors to use them to improve their services. This includes transparency in advertising displays and allowing websites to opt-out of data usage for AI training.

This process is standard procedure where the Ministry of Justice, as the plaintiff, must propose remedies to mitigate the effects of Google’s anticompetitive behavior post-court ruling. Meanwhile, Google can also submit its own proposals moving forward.
