Microsoft has introduced Microsoft Edge Game Assist, a specialized version of Microsoft Edge designed for gamers on PC. According to Microsoft, 88% of PC gamers prefer to have a browser open alongside their game, whether to read instructions or engage in other activities like listening to music or chatting with friends. The inconvenience of switching between the game and browser with the traditional Alt+Tab method is now addressed by Microsoft Edge Game Assist, which is integrated into the Game Bar app (Win+G) commonly used by PC gamers. This feature allows users to access information from Edge without having to log in again, resize the browser window as needed, and pin tabs to stay on top of the game screen. Additionally, for those watching game tutorials, the picture-in-picture mode is supported to have a small screen overlay on top of the game screen.
A new feature of Game Assist is the game-aware new tab page, which recognizes the game being played and the current gameplay session, providing relevant articles instantly. Currently, Game Assist supports several games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo IV, Fortnite, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, League of Legends, Minecraft, Overwatch 2, Roblox, and Valorant, with more to be added in the future.
Microsoft Edge Game Assist feature is now available for testing on the Microsoft Edge Insider Beta channel.
TLDR: Microsoft has launched Microsoft Edge Game Assist to enhance the gaming experience by providing easy access to the browser without interrupting gameplay, along with features like game-aware new tab pages and picture-in-picture mode for tutorials.
