Google has quietly unveiled Wear OS 5.1, a preview version with significant changes including the switch from Android 14 in Wear OS 5.0 to the latest Android 15. Interestingly, Google has chosen not to bump up the version number of Wear OS to 6 like the mainline Android versions. While there is no official explanation, it is speculated that due to minimal new features, users may not notice any drastic changes.
In addition to the operating system core changes, two new features for wearable devices have been introduced:
1. Support for Credential Manager API for login processes, similar to other Android devices.
2. Support for media playback (video-audio) through the device’s built-in speakers (if available).
