Decline in Q4/2024 EA Revenue by 6% as New Iteration of Battlefield Set to Release in Q1/2026

EA has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2024 (following EA’s financial year, which is the third quarter of FY25), with a 6% decrease in revenue compared to the same quarter of the previous year. This was communicated to investors ahead of the earnings call.

The decline in EA’s revenue came from both the live service game side (EA Sports FC 25) and the traditional game sales side (Dragon Age: The Veilguard). EA acknowledged that Dragon Age: The Veilguard underperformed and signaled a shifting trend in the single-player RPG gaming market, prompting EA to reallocate resources to more profitable ventures.

As for the football gaming market, EA admitted that revenue from EA Sports FC saw slower growth. The December 2024 event did not attract players as anticipated, although revenue from the mobile version FC Mobile continued to grow steadily, albeit not significantly. EA made efforts to update the game and the Team of the Year event in January 2025, resulting in a return of 2 million players. The overall franchise FC remains strong with a total player base of 40 million across all platforms.

Other games such as Apex Legends experienced a decrease in revenue but met expectations, while The Sims franchise saw revenue growth.

Another point of interest is EA’s announcement that the new installment of the Battlefield game series is “on target” to be released within the financial year 2026, with the latest possible release date being March 31, 2026.

TLDR: EA reported a 6% decrease in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024, citing underperformance of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and slower growth in EA Sports FC. The release of the new Battlefield game is expected within the financial year 2026.
