Rating of 81/100 for Civilization 7 in Game Reviews: Divides Critics into Love It or Hate It Camps

Civilization VII is set to be released on February 11th, with early access available to pre-order groups. The average review scores are at 81/100 (Metacritic) and 82/100 (OpenCritic), making it the lowest in the main series (IV had 94, V had 90, VI had 88).

The review patterns show a clear divide between those who really like it – like Guardian, VGC giving it full marks or close to it like Game Rant and Destructoid with 9/10 – and those who don’t, like Eurogamer with 2/5.

Key changes in Civ 7 include:

– Separating leaders from civilizations, allowing players to lead nations like Nopolean or Gonju over Siam.
– Implementing an Age system divided into 3 eras. This shakes up the gameplay by resetting some accumulated advantages, keeping the competition fierce.
– Introducing a new Influence system in diplomacy, creating clearer pathways for negotiation compared to previous installments.

Additionally, minor changes include the return of the war consent feature, where units can be combined under a commander unit, a new city management and territorial control system, and more.

TLDR: Civilization VII is receiving mixed reviews due to its new Influence diplomacy system being praised while some find the game unbalanced and complicated. Developers are listening to feedback and plan to improve the UI for better gameplay in the future.
