Sony unveils Q3 Performance Report: PS5 Sales Soar to 9.5 Million Units, Impact of PS5 Pro Revealed

Sony reported its performance for the fourth quarter of December 2024 with sales, excluding the financial business, totaling 3.70 trillion yen, up by 7% compared to the same quarter in the previous year. The net profit reached 3.41 trillion yen, showing a 10% increase.

As it was the year-end quarter, the gaming business, which is Sony’s largest segment, drew investors’ attention. Overall sales increased by 16% to 1.68 trillion yen, with PS5 sales increasing by 9.5 million units. This growth is attributed to the release of the PS5 Pro. Software sales also saw a positive trend, with a total of 95.9 million units sold, mainly driven by Non-First-Party game titles.

Revenue trends for other business segments showed a 14% increase in the music sector, driven by higher streaming revenue, a 9% increase in the film sector, a 4% decrease in the entertainment products category, while camera sensor revenue remained steady compared to the previous year.
