Valve Commences Accepting Code Contributions for Team Fortress 2 from External Developers Following Open Source Initiative

Valve has recently made the bold move of open-sourcing the entirety of the Team Fortress 2 game code. Following this, the open-source community wasted no time diving in and getting to work. On the GitHub repository for Team Fortress 2, there has been a flood of pull requests from external developers. Even Valve themselves have begun accepting some of these pull requests, many of which address small, long-standing bugs in TF2 that the player community has been contending with.

At present, Valve has yet to provide an official explanation on their criteria for accepting patches. However, this development signals a promising future for TF2, indicating that the game may be set for rejuvenation and growth on its own terms.

TLDR: Valve has opened up TF2’s source code, leading to a surge in community pull requests and potential for future fixes and updates in the game.
