The Mono project, an open-source .NET initiative, has released version 6.14, marking a significant milestone as Microsoft handed over the project to WineHQ. One of the key changes is the official support for Arm64 architecture on MacOS.
In addition to the new platform support, there have been minor improvements such as fixing X11 compatibility, enhanced COM Interface support, added support for the Georgian language, and bug fixes during compilation.
WineHQ also highlights the confusion surrounding the name Mono, as there are currently three projects using the same name. The first being the Mono Framework which aims to replace .NET Framework, the second being monovm, a runtime used by Microsoft in .NET to replace CoreCLR, and Wine Mono which WineHQ received as a distribution from the Mono Framework.
TLDR: Mono project’s latest version 6.14 introduces official Arm64 support on MacOS, with improvements in compatibility and language support, amidst confusion over multiple projects sharing the Mono name.
