Progress from the news of Ubuntu testing compiled distributions with O3 Optimization mode of GCC has shown an increase in efficiency. While some aspects of performance have improved after a period of testing, overall performance has decreased and now comes with a trade-off of larger binary sizes. There is now a high likelihood of reverting back to using the old O2 mode.
In the upcoming Ubuntu version 25.04 Plucky Puffin, architecture packages for ARM64 have been optimized to allow Ubuntu to run on Snapdragon X1 Elite PC instantaneously. Although it is not guaranteed to be fully functional by the time of 25.04 release, progress is steadily being made.
Ubuntu 25.04 will also come with stable .NET 9 packages and will support .NET packages in Snap format.
