Mozilla issues warning to update Firefox to version 128 due to expired Root Certificate validation.

Mozilla has issued a warning to users of older versions of Firefox, specifically version 128 and below (or 115 ESR for long-term support versions for organizations), to update their browser to the latest version. This is due to the expiration of the root certificate today (March 14, 2025).

Firefox utilizes this root certificate to verify the trustworthiness of add-ons, ensuring that they are genuinely certified by Mozilla. It also uses it to check content with DRM (such as streaming services). If the certificate expires, this verification process will no longer be possible.

This certificate affects both desktop and Android versions of Firefox, while the iOS version is unaffected as it relies on a different certificate.

TLDR: Mozilla advises users of older Firefox versions to update to the latest version due to the expiration of the root certificate today, affecting add-on verification and DRM content checks.
