Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that OpenAI is nearing the closure of an agreement to receive a new funding round of $40 billion USD, or approximately 1.36 trillion baht. The primary investors in this round include SoftBank, along with Magnetar Capital, Coatue Management, Founders Fund, and Altimeter Capital Management, with news first emerging in January.
This impending funding round will mark the largest influx of capital for OpenAI, expected to boost the company’s valuation to $300 billion USD, nearly doubling from the previous funding round in October last year, which valued the company at $157 billion USD.
The investment details will be divided into rounds, with SoftBank investing $7.5 billion USD in the first tranche, while the remaining funds will come from other investors. The second round of funding is expected to be within this year, totaling $22.5 billion USD from SoftBank and $7.5 billion USD from other investors.
OpenAI has disclosed data to investors, anticipating a revenue growth of more than triple from the previous year to $12.7 billion USD. This growth is driven by users of AI signing up for premium plans.
