APT (Advanced Package Tool) system has been a staple of the Linux world for nearly 30 years, since its inception in 1998. The latest major release of APT, version 3.0, brings about two significant changes.
Introducing the new Package Solver (solver3) to manage software package dependencies. Unlike its predecessors, solver3 will no longer remove manually installed packages and adjusts package removal behavior accordingly.
Furthermore, a fresh User Interface (UI) revamp has been implemented. While still text-based, the UI now supports color text and columnar displays to improve readability. This addresses the issue of consecutive APT messages being hard to decipher in the old format.
The APT package system is set to debut in Debian 13.0 scheduled for release this year.
