The End of Support for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Scheduled for May 31, 2025

Canonical has announced that Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa, released in 2020, will end its long-term support (LTS) in May 31, 2025. System admins have two options: either upgrade the operating system to the new LTS version, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Noble Numbat, which will be supported until 2029, or purchase the Expanded Security Maintenance (ESM) support service with a extended 5+2 year support period, valid until May 2032 (total of 12 years).

TLDR: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS support will end in 2025, admins can upgrade to 24.04 LTS or purchase ESM for extended support until 2032.
