Leader of Chrome Team Renders Competitors Incapable of Elevating Chrome to Google’s Level

Parisa Tabriz, the Business Manager of Chrome at Google, appeared in court in a dispute with the Department of Justice of the United States accusing Google of tying Search and proposing to spin off Chrome as a separate company, attracting interest from several potential buyers. Tabriz argues that Chrome is not just a browser but also tied to other Google services like Safe Browsing, password breach alerts, etc., claiming that only Google can create services at this level.

In contrast, James Mickens, a computer expert at the Department of Justice, believes that Google could sell the Chrome business to other companies while still providing the same features as when under Google, and that Google can continue developing Chromium collaboratively.

Tabriz points out that 90% of the source code in the Chromium project is written by Google engineers, with over 1,000 engineers working on Chromium, unlike any other company involved in Chromium development at the same level. She also acknowledges that Google is closely integrating Chrome with Gemini but notes that other companies can achieve a similar integration, citing Microsoft Edge’s connection with Bing and Copilot.

TLDR: Parisa Tabriz from Google is involved in a legal battle with the Department of Justice over Chrome, arguing that it is more than just a browser and is tightly linked with other Google services, while experts suggest that Google could sell Chrome to other companies while still providing the same features.
