A Case of Corporate Malfeasance Uncovered 125 Times in Just Six Months: TikTok’s Parent Company Terminates 88 Individuals

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has reported over 125 cases of misconduct within the organization in the first half of 2024. They have terminated 88 employees and 17 others are under investigation by authorities. The wrongdoing ranges from receiving bribes from partners and influencers to embezzlement within the company. ByteDance has made it clear that they are committed to fighting corruption and asset misappropriation.

According to South China Morning Post, this move reflects ByteDance’s seriousness in maintaining and attracting top-tier talent. This aligns with the bonuses the company announced at the beginning of the year for employees who have performed well. However, ByteDance is also facing challenges in the United States.

In the past year, ByteDance’s competitors have also been dealing with their fair share of misconduct cases. Tencent reported 70 cases of misconduct, resulting in the termination of 120 employees and the arrest of 20 individuals. Similarly, Meituan has cooperated with authorities in legal proceedings involving more than 93 employees.
