Yesterday at The Game Awards 2023, Square Enix announced their latest game, Visions of Mana, which marks a new installment in the Mana series (known as Seiken Densetsu in Japanese) after a gap of over 15 years.
(Note: The last main installment in the Mana series prior to this was Dawn of Mana, or Seiken Densetsu 4, released in 2006 on the PS2. Other games in the series were subsequently released on handheld devices like DS/Vita, mobile games, and remakes of older titles.)
The storyline of this game follows the journey of the protagonist, Val, as he travels across the world to reach the Tree of Mana. The graphics are presented in a 3D cartoon-like style with beautifully outlined edges. One of the defining features of this series is its stunning and nature-centric world. The game labels itself as semi-open, allowing for nearly unrestricted exploration with occasional scene transitions.
Visions of Mana is not limited to a specific platform like some other games in the same franchise. It will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2024 under the title “Seiken Densetsu Visions of Mana,” abandoning the use of numbering to identify its installment.
TLDR: Square Enix unveiled Visions of Mana, the newest addition to the Mana series after a 15-year hiatus. The game features Val’s journey to the Tree of Mana in a stunning and nature-themed world with a semi-open gameplay style. Visions of Mana will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2024.
