Acquisition Alert: Bose Purchases McIntosh Group, High-End Audio Equipment Manufacturer

Bose, a renowned manufacturer of audio equipment and headphones, has announced the acquisition of McIntosh Group, the owner of high-end audio brands McIntosh from the United States and Sonus faber from Italy, without disclosing the value of the deal.

This latest acquisition seems to be focused on expanding opportunities in the car audio sector, with Bose highlighting the over 40 years of car audio experience combined with the capabilities of McIntosh to drive research and development of new car audio products.

McIntosh has already developed audio systems for certain car brands such as Jeep, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Pagani, while Bose aims to capture a wider market in the automotive industry.

Both companies will continue to develop their existing products such as headphones and speakers, positioning themselves in line with market demands for each brand.

This acquisition is made from Highlander Partners, an investment company that has owned McIntosh Group since 2022.

In recent years, there has been a trend of consolidation in the audio industry, with companies like Masimo (involved in the legal case against Apple for blood oxygen measurement systems) acquiring Polk Audio, Denon, Bowers & Wilkins, and Marantz. Samsung owns JBL and Harman Kardon, while Sony owns Audeze headphones. Voxx International holds multiple brands such as Pioneer, Klipsch, and Onkyo.

TLDR: Bose acquires McIntosh Group, focusing on expanding car audio opportunities, amidst a trend of consolidation in the audio industry.
