Google Cloud has announced the acquisition of Cameyo, a company that develops virtualization software to run Windows apps on ChromeOS. Cameyo’s software falls into the category of virtual application delivery (VAD), which allows for running individual apps only, unlike virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) that requires running the entire desktop system in a virtual environment. The VAD approach proves to be more efficient, easier to manage, and more secure.
Cameyo has been collaborating with Google to provide a solution for running Windows apps on ChromeOS since last year, incorporating features like file system and clipboard support. Following successful testing, Google has made the decision to acquire the Cameyo team into the ChromeOS Enterprise team.
