Investment company from the Netherlands, Prosus, focusing on technology companies, has announced the acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway.com, a delivery service provider in Europe, for a staggering 4.1 billion euros or approximately 1.44 trillion baht. The deal was paid entirely in cash due to the need to buy back shares from minority shareholders, with the purchasing price significantly higher than the average stock price over the past 3 months, at around 49%.
Fabricio Bloisi, CEO of Prosus, sees this deal as a strategic move to strengthen the company’s investment portfolio and establish a leading technology company in Europe. On the other hand, Jitse Groen, CEO of Just Eat Takeaway.com, believes that partnering with Prosus will enhance the company’s expansion strategy globally, venturing into new related businesses such as food delivery, supermarket goods, fin-tech, and more.
Prosus already has investments in another delivery service company, Delivery Hero, through its subsidiary Naspers, which holds a large stake in the company.
Just Eat Takeaway.com was formed from the merger of Just Eat (Denmark/UK) and Takeaway (Netherlands). Last year, the company sold its Grubhub business, a delivery service provider in America, which was acquired during the pandemic when it suffered a 90% loss.
TLDR: Prosus, an investment company from the Netherlands, acquires Just Eat Takeaway.com for 4.1 billion euros in cash, aiming to strengthen its position in the technology industry in Europe and expand globally.
