Krafton, a South Korean gaming company under the umbrella of PUBG, has announced the acquisition of Tango Gameworks studio following Microsoft’s lead. This move ensures Tango’s survival, unlike other studios under Bethesda that faced closure after Microsoft’s announcement in May 2024.
Tango Gameworks is considered a prominent Japanese studio under Microsoft’s wing, inherited from the Bethesda era. Established in 2010 by Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil series, Tango has released notable titles over the past 14 years, including the acclaimed The Evil Within series, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush.
Shinji Mikami parted ways with Tango in 2023 and recently founded a new studio named Kamuy in 2024. While no new game titles have emerged from Kamuy yet, Mikami has expressed a desire to explore genres beyond horror games.
Krafton has made it clear that this acquisition includes Tango’s talented workforce and ownership rights to the Hi-Fi Rush franchise. These assets will be leveraged by Krafton to develop future game projects.
