IO Interactive, a game studio from Denmark, is updating the progress of Project 007, the James Bond game announced in 2020. The development is going smoothly according to plan, although no release date has been confirmed yet.
Project 007 breathes new life into James Bond as a fresh secret agent, reminiscent of the Casino Royale film. However, the game’s storyline will not be tied to any particular movie in the franchise.
Hakan Abrak, the head of IO Interactive, acknowledges the challenge of creating a James Bond game, considering the franchise’s vast popularity and established characters. Despite their extensive experience developing the Hitman franchise for over two decades, tackling James Bond presents a unique challenge. The excitement of this project lies in IO’s creative freedom to craft an original storyline from the ground up, without being restricted by past films. They aim to potentially turn this into a trilogy.
Initially, MGM was hesitant about licensing James Bond for a game, given the history of unsuccessful Bond games (except for GoldenEye). However, IO’s proven track record with the Hitman series eventually won over MGM’s approval.
