There have been reports about the latest Apple updates from Mark Gurman’s weekly newsletter at Bloomberg. This time discussing AI features in iOS 18 and the Mac mini.
Starting with AI, last week Gurman mentioned that the AI on iOS 18 will primarily process on-device, without any external cloud connection, due to Apple’s focus on privacy. However, there may be additional features connecting to external services, like Google’s Gemini.
New information from Gurman states that all AI features in iOS 18 will run solely on devices without external cloud connections, limiting capabilities. Apple plans to address this by negotiating with Google to purchase access to the Gemini models for offline processing on devices, not only emphasizing privacy but also increasing responsiveness.
In other news, regarding the Mac mini, Gurman previously discussed Apple’s plan to release the M4 chip Mac, potentially skipping the M3 Mac mini release and waiting for the M4 version by late this year or early next year.

TLDR: Apple is focusing on AI features in iOS 18 for on-device processing, negotiating with Google for external services, and potentially skipping the M3 Mac mini release for the upcoming M4 version by late this year or early next year.
