TechCrunch reports on the progress of Inflection AI, the company that had its CEO Mustafa Suleyman and part of the team pulled by Microsoft in March 2024. Sean White, the new CEO of Inflection, admitted in an interview that the company’s resources are dwindling, which is why they can no longer offer the chatbot Pi freely as before, as each chat consumes GPU resources. Initially, Inflection was prepared to shut down Pi altogether, but instead opted to limit the number of chats instead.
Additionally, Inflection has partnered with the Data Transfer Initiative (DTI) to allow users of the Pi chatbot to extract their chat data from the servers, opening up the opportunity to leverage this data with other AI services in the future. In terms of the overall business direction, Inflection has shifted towards enterprise clients, selling its models to other companies through APIs, with over 13,000 companies already showing interest. Inflection states that they will select the initial group of customers to engage with further discussions, while the full enterprise offering will be launched in the upcoming fall season.
