Alibaba Announces Partnership as AI Collaborator for Apple Intelligence in China

Joe Tsai, chairman and co-founder of Alibaba, revealed at the World Governments Summit in Dubai that the company has entered into a collaboration with Apple to integrate the Qwen artificial intelligence model into Apple Intelligence services for devices sold in China.

This announcement by Tsai marks the first official disclosure, following reports earlier in the week that Apple had selected Alibaba as its AI partner in China. Providing AI services in China necessitated Apple’s partnership with a local company, as advised. Initially considering negotiations with Baidu, disagreements arose during the development phase, prompting Apple to engage with other companies such as ByteDance and Tencent, before ultimately striking a deal with Alibaba.
