Amazon has announced the progress of its investment plan in Anthropic, an AI company developing Claude. Previously, the company invested 1.25 billion dollars and can increase the investment amount to 4 billion dollars. Currently, the company has announced an additional investment of 2.75 billion dollars, totaling 4 billion dollars.
Although Amazon’s investment is substantial, it is similar to Microsoft’s deal with OpenAI. Amazon remains a minority shareholder as a special class of shares and the company does not have a board seat quota. Anthropic, with a current valuation of approximately 18.4 billion dollars, has received around 7.3 billion dollars in investment funds.
Amazon has integrated Claude into Amazon Bedrock, which has been well-received by customers of all sizes.
