The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has announced a work stoppage affecting members involved in the video game business such as actors, voice actors, motion capture performers, etc., after over a year and a half of unsuccessful negotiations. Companies involved in the negotiations for a new agreement include Activision, Blindlight, Disney Character Voices, Electronic Arts, Formosa Interactive, Insomniac Games, Llama Productions, Take 2, VoiceWorks, and WB Games.
The key issue preventing a resolution in these new negotiations revolves around the use of AI technology in production processes. This includes provisions allowing studios to use data for AI training purposes, whether for voice, acting, motion capture, dance, and more.
Last year, SAG-AFTRA’s actors also experienced a work stoppage, with AI being one of the contentious points that led to stalled negotiations. However, a resolution was eventually reached after several months.

TLDR: SAG-AFTRA members in the video game industry are facing a work stoppage due to failed negotiations involving the use of AI technology in production processes.
