Apple has announced a contract signing with Amkor, an American semiconductor packaging company, to utilize Amkor’s new facility in Arizona for packaging Apple Silicon chips. These chips are produced by TSMC in close proximity to the Amkor factory.

Although Amkor has large offices in the United States, all of their factories are located in Asia, including South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Malaysia. However, the company has recently announced the establishment of their first factory in the United States, with a total investment of $2 billion and the creation of 2,000 positions.

Apple has been a long-time customer of Amkor, with more than 10 years of collaboration for chip packaging services. As chip production in America begins to ramp up again, Apple has signed a contract with Amkor to continue utilizing their chip packaging services in the United States.

In 2021, Apple announced plans to invest $430 billion in the United States over a period of 5 years, including the purchase of components from American suppliers and investments in data centers. Apple has stated that they are on track with their outlined plans.
