OpenAI confirms that Caitlin Kalinowski, former head of AR glasses development at Meta, has joined the company as the head of robotics hardware development team and products for individual customers. Kalinowski assumed the role of AR glasses development team lead at Meta in 2022, overseeing the recently launched Orion glasses project. Previously, she led the VR glasses development team and prior to that, she worked on hardware design for Apple’s MacBook.
The hardware collaboration with OpenAI remains a secretive project within the company, despite ongoing speculation about AI-driven hardware development. Details regarding the nature of this hardware initiative are scarce. Several months ago, Jonathan Ive, former head of Apple’s design team, hinted at a joint product development effort with OpenAI.
