Google has announced the release of Android 15 stable versions and has submitted the code to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). However, devices in the Pixel family will have to wait a few more weeks for the update.
The new features of Android 15 focus on changing the core of the operating system. High-level features have been segregated into the Android Feature Drop. Some of the changes in Android 15 include:
– Displaying apps in an edge-to-edge format for a more immersive experience, with apps appearing under the status bar and navigation bar of the system.
– Loudness Control to maintain a consistent volume level.
– Revised conditions for foreground services to improve battery efficiency, such as limiting media processing tasks to a maximum of 6 hours.
– Simplified Passkey login process with a reduction in the number of screen taps required.
– Improved FontFamily creation process by automating weight and italicization, adding variable font support to the NotoSansCJK font set.
– Preview screen adjustments for post-capture image control, including Low Light Boost and finer control over flash levels.
– Support for ANGLE as a method to run legacy OpenGL ES apps on Vulkan.
– Introduction of Private Space for storing hidden apps, hidden from others’ view.
– Addition of options for page size in memory units to boost performance by 5-10% at the expense of increased RAM consumption.
