Google has released Android 15 Developer Preview 2 (DP2) with significant changes at the OS level.
Support for messaging through satellite networks has been added, along with APIs that allow apps to check if the device is connected to a satellite.
The PdfRenderer API, the OS’s PDF reader, has been greatly improved. Now it can search for text in documents, render password-protected files, fill forms, select text for copying, and has been separated from the OS for future updates via Google Play.
The TextView text renderer in the OS now supports inserting tags to indicate no line break and no hyphenation.
Displaying content on the cover screen or front screen of a flip phone can now be done in a vertical orientation.
APIs have been added to allow apps to capture screen recordings and track app startup times for performance optimization.
HDR Headroom Control improves the display of HDR content alongside SDR content, such as showing HDR and SDR thumbnails in the same image.
Loudness Control maintains a consistent volume level, following the CTA-2075 standard.
