Announcement from OpenAI: New Board Members Appointed, Including Sam Altman’s Return as a Director Once Again

OpenAI has announced the appointment of three new board members following the turmoil within the company at the end of last year. The board at that time ousted Sam Altman, the CEO, who has now returned to the position. OpenAI also announced a new board structure with Microsoft securing one observer seat.

The newly appointed board members are as follows:

Dr. Sue Desmond-Hellmann, former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and current board member of Pfizer, as well as a science and technology advisor to the president.
Nicole Seligman, former COO and general counsel of Sony Corporation and current board member of Paramount, MeiraGTx, and Intuitive Machines.
Fidji Simo, CEO and president of Instacart, who also holds board positions at Shopify and has previously led the app division at Facebook.

In addition, Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, will also return to the board. Bret Taylor, chairman of the OpenAI board, further explained to the press about the investigation into the issues that led to the decision to remove Altman as CEO earlier, citing severe trust issues between the previous board and Altman and Greg Brockman, the board chairman at the time.
