Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the business unit within the Sony umbrella that oversees PlayStation, has announced the appointment of a new CEO following Jim Ryan’s retirement from the previous position. Opting for a dual CEO system, a strategy that many companies have favored in recent times, two CEOs will helm the PlayStation division. Hideaki Nishino will be responsible for the platform business, while Hermen Hulst will oversee game studio production. These appointments will take effect starting June 1, 2024 and Hiroki Totoki, who is currently serving as interim CEO during the CEO selection process, will become the chairman of SIE’s board.
Nishino, currently serving as the Deputy President of the Experience Platform Group, will now expand his responsibilities to include technology, product, services, platforms, and managing relationships with external game developers, as well as sales and marketing efforts.
On the other hand, Hulst, the current head of PlayStation Studios, will be in charge of game production as well as overseeing the sales and licensing of games for creating various other forms of content such as series or films.
