Announcement: Path of Exile 2 Unveils Console Version for PS5, Early Access Still Unreleased Despite 5 Years of Development

The game Path of Exile announced the development of its sequel since 2019, initially planned as a remake of the first part with the addition of 7 more chapters. However, the game’s scope expanded significantly, prompting the development team at Grinding Gear Games (GGG) to separate it into a whole new game. As of today, Path of Exile 2 is still in development, with plans to commence Early Access testing within the year 2024.

Most recently, during the PlayStation State of Play event, Grinding Gear Games unveiled Path of Exile 2 for the PS5 console, showcasing the game’s trailer (featuring cross-play and cross-progression capabilities between PC and console). This announcement hints at the game nearing readiness for Early Access testing soon.

Path of Exile is an action-RPG game similar to Diablo but follows a free-to-play model. It was first introduced in 2010 when there were few games of this genre available, and officially launched in 2013. The game has garnered a dedicated fanbase, with some suggesting it surpasses Diablo III, released during the same period.

While the first part of Path of Exile was released on multiple platforms such as PC, PS4, and Xbox One, it remains to be seen if Path of Exile 2 will also be announced for the Xbox Series X|S and Mac platforms.
