Announcement: Remedy Cancels Codename Kestrel Game After Prolonged Development Limbo.

Remedy and Tencent have decided to cancel the development of the game Codename Kestrel. Details revealed that the development team was small and the game was still in the early stages of concept. Remedy, the game developer, was co-funding the project with Tencent, who would also serve as the distributor (similar to Alan Wake 2 with Epic Games Publishing as the distributor).

The cancellation of the game has allowed Remedy to refocus on other projects that the studio is currently developing. The team working on Kestrel will be reassigned to other game projects at Remedy, resulting in a reduced demand for new developers at the studio.

Tero Virtala, the CEO of Remedy, stated that the decision to cancel was for the benefit of Remedy as a whole. He commended the Codename Kestrel team for their hard work and valuable learning experiences for the studio. He also thanked Tencent for their collaboration and support thus far.

Codename Kestrel, previously known as Codenamed Vanguard, was planned to be a cooperative PvE game using the Unreal Engine and would have been free-to-play on PC and consoles. Development was announced at the end of 2021, but re-development under the name Kestrel began in November 2023.
