Announcement: TSMC Reveals the Inauguration of its Second Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility in Japan with a Production Timeline Set for 2027.

TSMC has announced the establishment of its second chip manufacturing plant in Japan. Located in Kumamoto prefecture, this new facility is set to begin construction in late 2024, with the goal of starting production in 2027. Meanwhile, the first plant is scheduled to kick off production by 2024.

Operating under the name Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM), TSMC’s subsidiary holds a majority stake of 86.5%, with Sony, Denso, and Toyota also being shareholders with stakes of 6%, 5.5%, and 2%, respectively.

Once both plants are fully operational, they will have a combined production capacity of 100,000 wafers per month. This expansion will also create 3,400 high-tech job opportunities in Japan.
