App Store Removes Apps in EU Nations Without Trader Status Data as per DSA Regulations

Apple has notified app developers with apps published on the App Store in the European Union that apps without a Trader Status designation have been removed from the respective App Stores immediately. This action will remain in effect until developers update Trader Status information in the European region through the App Store Connect system for Apple to reassess.

Apple cites compliance with the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) as the reason for this app removal, which was previously communicated to developers. The DSA mandates that apps on the store must have publisher information identifying them as traders (with income), including address and telephone number for additional user inquiries. This may have repercussions for small-scale or independent developers who typically only provide contact information via email and website, which does not meet DSA requirements.

According to Appfigures, approximately 135,000 apps have been removed from the App Store as a result of this incident.

TLDR: Apple removed apps lacking Trader Status from the EU App Store, in compliance with the DSA, affecting thousands of apps and developers.
