Apple Pulls Spotify’s Exclusive EU-Only App Version from App Store Amid Approval Standoff

The ongoing conflict between Spotify and Apple in the European Union (EU) seems far from over. Recently, Spotify has emailed a complaint to the European Commission (EC) alleging that Apple has yet to respond regarding the approval of a new app version specifically for EU countries. In this update, Spotify states that they have submitted a request since March 5th, detailing package pricing and payment options that direct users to Spotify’s own website, in compliance with EU guidelines that Apple must allow developers to display cheaper pricing options without using Apple’s payment channels.

Spotify demands that the EC reach out to Apple for approval of this app version, hinting at a history of delayed approvals by Apple. However, Apple has not commented on this matter yet.
