Apple unveils midnight short film inspired by Tezuka Osamu’s manga, shot using iPhone 15 Pro

Apple has released a new short film for their Shot on iPhone campaign, titled Midnight. The film is adapted from a manga of the same name by Tezuka Osamu, a legendary manga writer known for creating Astro Boy and Black Jack. It delves into the mysterious taxi that appears only at midnight, intertwining with the diverse life struggles of its passengers.

The film highlights the features of the iPhone 15 Pro, such as the 5x zoom for focusing on characters, capturing shots from manga-like angles, using the Action mode for running scenes, utilizing the Cinematic mode for adjusting background focus, achieving quality in low-light conditions, and employing Lidar sensors to scan entire cars for CGI effects in the film.

Directed by Takashi Miike, known for his adaptations of manga and games into films like Crows Zero, Terra Formars, Ace Attorney, and Blade of the Immortal, Midnight stars Kento Kaku, fresh from his work in the Netflix series House of Ninjas, as the protagonist, with Yukiyoshi Ozawa, recognized for his role in the Japanese snack commercial Long Long Man, portraying the antagonist.

The full-length film runs for 19 minutes and offers a behind-the-scenes look at its creation.
