According to a report from Nikkei Asia, Apple is in the process of relocating a significant number of its engineering team to Vietnam. This move includes the transfer of the New Product Introduction (NPI) department for the iPad, which was previously based in China. The objective is to reduce dependence on China for production, aligning with Apple’s previous plans.
The report states that BYD, the company responsible for managing the NPI relocation, is already involved in iPad manufacturing for Apple. Last year, BYD also assisted in moving a portion of iPad production from China to Vietnam.
As part of the development plan for the new iPad production in Vietnam, engineering testing is scheduled for mid-February 2024. It is expected that the new iPad model developed in Vietnam will be launched in the second half of next year.
TLDR: Apple is transferring its engineering team, including the NPI department for the iPad, from China to Vietnam. BYD, which already manufactures iPads for Apple, is overseeing the relocation. The new iPad model developed in Vietnam is expected to be launched in the second half of next year.
