Beer and AI are no strangers in the world of innovation. Blognone has previously reported on the development of beer formulas using AI, whether it’s continuous system improvement or letting AI create new beer recipes. This time, AI is being utilized in yet another beer-related endeavor.
Professor Kevin Verstrepen from KU Leuven University in Belgium has published a research paper in Nature Communications. The study analyzed the components of 250 beers sold in Belgium, each with different production processes. Data such as alcohol levels, pH values, sugar quantities, and detailed ingredient compositions were collected. They then used a panel of tasters to score the beers across various aspects, a process that took up to 3 years. The research also included analyzing over 180,000 online reviews.
Based on the gathered data, the research team processed it to create an AI model that can predict how beers with specific components will taste and how they will be rated. However, the goal of this research is not for AI to come up with new beer recipes to replace humans, but rather to use AI to suggest recipe improvements for greater consumer satisfaction. In the study, beers currently on the market were experimented with by adding certain ingredients based on the AI model’s suggestions, resulting in increased satisfaction ratings.

**TLDR:**
AI and beer have teamed up for innovative research in Belgium, where data from 250 beers was analyzed to create an AI model that suggests recipe improvements for higher consumer satisfaction. No plans for AI to take over beer-making, just enhance it.
