Autonomous Taxi Service Unveiled by Waymo in Los Angeles and Austin, Now Available in 4 Cities

While the driverless car company Cruise is facing heavy challenges, the Waymo division under Alphabet looks promising. The latest announcement revealed an expansion to two more cities in the United States, Los Angeles and Austin, bringing the total serviced cities to four (the first two being Phoenix and San Francisco).

In California, Waymo has been conducting free trials for the public after receiving approval, and will soon transition to commercial operations, starting to charge customers in a few weeks. They are gradually opening up registration for 50,000 users to use the service in groups.

Regarding the Austin case, Waymo is currently limiting rides to their own employees, with plans to allow general customers to test the service later this year.

TLDR: Waymo, a division of Alphabet, is expanding its driverless car services to Los Angeles and Austin, with plans for commercial operations after conducting free trials for the public in California. In Austin, only Waymo employees are currently allowed to use the service.
