Amazon Web Services (AWS) has refuted reports from the Financial Times claiming that AWS has transitioned to using GPUs in all of its data centers, suspending all orders for NVIDIA’s Hopper GPUs to wait for the latest Blackwell GPU model recently unveiled by NVIDIA in March. The decision was made based on the minimal price difference, opting for the newer model.
AWS representatives clarified to address this report, stating that AWS has not suspended any orders from NVIDIA. A possible source of this news could be the Ceiba project, where AWS partnered with NVIDIA to develop a supercomputer, leading to the decision to switch all GPUs from Hopper to Blackwell for improved processing efficiency.
AWS stated that the company will still offer GPU services on Hopper for AI-related tasks in the future.
