Baidu Unveils Over 200 Million Accounts for Chatbot Ernie

Baidu has disclosed that their chatbot, Ernie, now boasts over 200 million users, doubling from the reported 100 million in December. The Ernie chatbot has been open to the public since September of last year.

According to Robin Li, CEO of Baidu, the Ernie API is being called a whopping 200 million times a day, with around 85,000 corporate customers utilizing the chatbot.

The main competitor in the chatbot field in China, facing Ernie, is Kimi from Moonshot AI, backed by Alibaba. While Kimi has seen a significant increase in user rate recently, it still falls short of Ernie’s numbers.

Ernie is a fundamental chatbot used in the Chinese market, including in the Samsung Galaxy S24 sold in China. There are rumors circulating that Apple is also preparing to implement Ernie in their new iPhone models set to release this year, specifically targeting the Chinese market.
