Bluesky has adjusted its platform usage guidelines to combat impersonation, where accounts pretending to be someone else must clearly display the user’s name and bio information. This helps followers of these accounts quickly realize they are not genuine. Bluesky will also label impersonation accounts visibly.
Additionally, Bluesky prohibits identity churning, where changing names repeatedly to deceive users is not allowed. The team has increased content monitoring fourfold to efficiently handle a larger number of users until spam, bots, and fake accounts are dealt with.
