The Board of Investment (BOI) has approved Western Digital’s request for investment promotion to expand their hard disk drive production base in Nakhon Nayok and Prachinburi, with a total investment value of 23.516 billion baht.
Western Digital has been operating in Thailand since 2540 and currently employs over 28,000 people. With this new investment, it is expected that they will hire over 10,000 more employees. They utilize local components such as circuit boards, plastic parts, and power supplies, accounting for 45% of the raw material value, or 81 billion baht per year.
Currently, Thailand serves as a major production hub for hard disk drives, accounting for 80% of the global market share.
