Brazil Cancels Starlink and X’s Account Seizure After Paying 110 Million Baht Fine

Alexandre de Moraes, the Supreme Court judge in Brazil, has revoked the freezing of bank accounts belonging to both Starlink and X, following Brazil’s deduction of a fine of 18.35 million reais (110 million baht) from these accounts.

Brazil stated that X owed the aforementioned fine due to the platform’s failure to ban user accounts, which allegedly spread fake news. This issue led Judge Moraes to order X to appoint legal representatives, prompting X to close its offices in the country and eventually face a block on future operations.

Although the bank accounts of Starlink and X can now conduct transactions as usual, Moraes still maintains the block on X’s operations in Brazil, citing the company’s failure to appoint legal representatives and ban user accounts as ordered by the court.

TLDR: Judge Alexandre de Moraes lifts the freeze on bank accounts of Starlink and X in Brazil after imposing a hefty fine, but maintains the block on X’s operations for non-compliance with legal requirements.
