Brazilian Court Orders Block of X in Country After 24-Hour Deadline Expires – VPN Users Face Fines

Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Central Brazilian Federal Court has issued an order for X to cease operations in the country, after failing to appoint legal representatives as previously ordered by the court within 24 hours. Elon Musk, the owner of X, has clearly stated that they will not comply, while Brazil has ordered the freezing of accounts to halt all financial transactions of Musk’s company in Brazil.

Brazil’s communication regulatory agency has notified all internet service providers and networks with more than 20,000 companies in the country to block access to X, with full implementation expected within the coming week. Judge De Moraes has instructed Apple and Google to find technology to prevent users from accessing X on iOS and Android operating systems, starting with removal of X from the app store and VPN apps. The court also warned that those attempting to use VPNs to access X may face fines of up to 50,000 reais or around 300,000 baht.

X’s Global Government Affairs account posted a clarification following the latest court order in Brazil, attributing the situation to X’s failure to comply with the directive to close a certain number of user accounts, seen as a political reason. The next steps for X include releasing all details of documents and court orders in this case for transparency of the platform.

TLDR: Judge Alexandre de Moraes orders X to stop services in Brazil for non-compliance, leading to account freezes and access blocks, prompting warnings for VPN users and a call for transparency from X.
