Broadcom Embarks on Employee Disengagement at VMware Following Business Acquisition – Dictating Remote Work Abandonment

After completing the acquisition of VMware, Broadcom has reportedly begun restructuring the organization immediately. As a preliminary step, there will be a layoff of approximately 2,000 employees, with 1,267 employees from the California office being let go immediately and another 600 employees from branch offices.

Hock Tan, the CEO of Broadcom, has also announced plans to further integrate VMware into Broadcom, which is expected to result in additional job cuts. The focus will be on roles that overlap with Broadcom’s existing workforce and smaller branch offices. Additionally, Broadcom is preparing to relocate its main office to Palo Alto, where the VMware headquarters is located.

Broadcom has also announced changes to VMware’s working arrangements. Full-time remote work for VMware employees who reside within a 60-mile radius of any VMware or Broadcom office will be discontinued. These employees will be required to work on-site starting December 4th, unless they live farther away than the radius specified. CEO Tan reiterated to employees that Broadcom does not have remote working arrangements.
