Caldera Map from Call of Duty: Warzone by Activision Now Accessible to All Players

Activision has announced the open-source file of the Caldera map for Call of Duty: Warzone, allowing interested individuals to access and modify it for non-commercial use. The disclosed information includes the map model in OpenUSD format, originally developed by Pixar and widely used in the 3D industry, as well as player movement statistics on the map. Activision reasons that educational and research institutions can utilize this data for further studies or developments, such as creating AI models for gaming or educating students in game design, with real-world examples from players who have extensively used the map.

The map model file is approximately 4GB in size and contains various metadata, including data for game lighting. The Activision team chose the Caldera map due to its large size, high complexity, and representation of the technological advancements that the Call of Duty team has collectively built over the years (primary development team being Raven Software).

The map file can be downloaded from GitHub under the Activision Non-Commercial Use License Agreement, allowing for usage, modification, and distribution if not commercially beneficial.

TLDR: Activision released the Caldera map for non-commercial use, providing valuable data for educational and research purposes, highlighting the map’s size, complexity, and technological advancements in gaming.
