Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Reduces Install File Size, Unobtrusive to Warzone Loading

Activision has revealed the technical details of the game Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, boasting a smaller installation file size compared to Modern Warfare III. Many skeptics may find this hard to believe, as the file size of Call of Duty games has been steadily increasing over time. One key reason for this trend is the inclusion of the game file Call of Duty: Warzone, whether players choose to play it or not.

The new approach in Black Ops 6 is the separation of Warzone, no longer a mandatory download. Players now have the freedom to choose which game to download. Additionally, a new technique involves downloading the game’s texture files on-demand, moving files that are not frequently used onto servers instead. These files stream to the player’s device when needed. One drawback of this method is that the initial gameplay may feature lower quality textures, but as the files are fully downloaded, high-quality textures are utilized.

The installation file size of Black Ops 6 varies across platforms. The PC version, downloaded via Steam, amounts to 66GB, while the PS5 version is larger at 80GB.
